Advancing SDGs

ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION FOR YOUTH ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS HELD ON THURSDAY 12TH OCTOBER, 2017 by 9A.M at AMERICAN CORNER, KANO – NIGERIA.

INTRODUCTION

The sole objective of the discussion was to enlighten the general public particularly youth on the need for successful implementation of sustainable development goals within our societies and the significant role youth play towards the achievement of these goals. There where presentations from the participants including Rufa’I, the CEO of Digital Development Hub, who presented a paper on “Sub Sahara Africa and SGDs”. Also among the presenters was Prof. M.B Shehu of Bayero University Kano made a presentation on “Know Your Goals”.

COURSE CONTENT

The discussion was quite interactive as participants made relevant contributions citing 21st century experiences. The setting also encouraged for a clearer understanding of the theme as every participant preferred solutions as to way forward and how to create an all-inclusive society I the struggle for a successful implementation of SDGs.

DISCUSSION

The topic is original and useful; it is applicable in other areas of research. It can be used to improve on the living standards of our societies. I believe if solutions suggested will be put into practice, a positive impact will be greatly felt.

CONCLUSION

I would rate the round table discussion fair as there are improvements that could be made, ranging from the organisation of the event, to topics presented and the timing of the event as well. Generally, the event was a success and we hope to achieve certain positive outcomes from the discussion.

Google Hash Code 2018

On the 2nd March, 2018, Digital Development Hub took part in the annual google Hash code competition organized by Google LLC.

The Hub had six teams comprising of twenty-five contestants that participated in the contest with participants cutting across University students, techies and entrepreneurs. It was tasking and fun as contestants attempted to solve the engineering problem from Google. The theme for this year was self-driving ride. The question for the online round is “Millions of people commute by car every day; for example, to school or to their workplace. Self-driving vehicles are an exciting development for transportation. They aim to make traveling by car safer and more available while also saving commuters time. In this competition problem, we’ll be looking at how a fleet of self-driving vehicles can efficiently get commuters to their destinations in a simulated city.”

The Hash code 2018 edition is the first one DDHub participated in and there have been learning points. We are hoping community members will participate from our hub during subsequent editions and we are doing everything possible to make the experience a better one.

Basic film Training Techniques

DDHub in collaboration with Q films organized a 5days basic film techniques for Jigawa people at government social welfare center Hadeja. The program was witnessed by some official of Jigawa state government with over 40 participants. At the initial stage of the program Adam Baboya highlighted to the participants about DDHub and services it renders.
